Motorcyclists in Rawalpindi no longer have to wait weeks to get a driving license. The City Traffic Police (CTP) has rolled out a new system that lets riders complete the entire process from the learner permit to the permanent license — in just one day.
This major change replaces the old procedure, which required up to 42 days between the learner permit and the driving test.
What’s New in the Updated Licensing System?
Under the new setup, motorcycle riders can:
- Take the written test
- Attempt the practical riding test
- And receive their permanent licence on the same day (if they pass)
This system removes unnecessary delays and makes the process simpler for daily commuters who rely on motorcycles for work, school, and travel.
Why Was This Change Introduced?
The initiative came on the instructions of:
- CTO Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam
- Following the vision of DIG Traffic Punjab Waqas Nazeer
A spokesperson for the CTP said this reform is part of a larger plan to improve licensing services across Rawalpindi’s 13 traffic centres. The goal is to reduce crowding, speed up processing, and encourage more riders to become licensed drivers.
Over 20,500 Motorcycle Licenses Issued in One Month
Since the launch of this fast-track system, the response has been strong.
CTP Rawalpindi issued more than 20,500 motorcycle licences last month alone, showing how quickly riders are adopting the new process.
Officials reminded citizens that riding without a valid driving license is still a punishable offence. Fines and legal action may apply, so motorcyclists are encouraged to complete their licensing as soon as possible.
Public Awareness Campaign for Riders
CTO Farhan Aslam shared that the department is running an awareness drive to educate motorcyclists about:
- The importance of carrying a valid licence
- Following traffic rules
- How proper documentation reflects responsible driving
The campaign aims to reduce accidents, improve discipline on the roads, and build trust between citizens and traffic authorities.
Licensing Through CTP Centres & Online System
The updated process is available at multiple CTP centres across Rawalpindi.
These centres use the Punjab Government’s online licensing system, making:
- Applications
- Test scheduling
- Verification
- Licence issuance
faster and more efficient.
