Donkey Meat Scandal Spreads: Major Seizure Near Kasur After Islamabad and Battagram Raids

In yet another alarming development in the ongoing crackdown against the illegal meat trade, authorities have recovered donkey meat from a village near Kasur—marking the third major incident reported in recent days across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Acting on intelligence reports, police launched a raid in Kotli Rai Abu Bakar, a village on the outskirts of Kasur. During the operation, one suspect was arrested at the scene, while three others managed to flee. Several maunds of suspicious meat were seized on-site. A case has been registered, and investigations are currently ongoing.

This incident follows closely on the heels of a similar operation in the Kuzabanda area of Battagram district. Authorities there discovered a slaughtered donkey and arrested two suspects hailing from Hunza and Mansehra. That raid was carried out by the Additional Assistant Commissioner and a Food Inspector, following a tip-off from concerned locals.

Earlier, a major bust took place in Islamabad, where the Food Authority recovered nearly 1,000 kilograms of donkey meat from a farmhouse in the Tarnol area. More than 50 live donkeys were also found on the premises. A foreign national was arrested in connection with the case.

Officials have reiterated that efforts to curb the illegal meat trade will intensify in the coming weeks, as authorities work to safeguard public health and food safety standards across the country.
