Inspiring! BISP Honors Top Student Achievers from Low-Income Families

Islamabad, Pakistan —
In a moving ceremony held at the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Headquarters, the academic excellence of students from some of Pakistan’s most marginalized families was celebrated, showcasing how targeted educational support can unlock potential and transform futures.

Among the many inspiring stories was that of 15-year-old Hafiza Maryam Bibi from Multan, who secured 1st position in the Multan Board. Grateful for the support she received through the Benazir Taleemi Wazaif Programme, Maryam credited her success to her family, teachers, and the BISP initiative. “This isn’t just my success—it’s a moment of pride for the entire nation,” she said. “I thank the Benazir Income Support Programme for making this possible.”

The event highlighted the transformative power of educational stipends for children of BISP beneficiary families, many of whom face economic hardship and social challenges.

Another standout story came from Hafiz Asad Raza, a student from a remote village in Fort Abbas Tehsil, District Bahawalnagar. Despite his father’s limited earnings as a bus conductor and the burden of supporting seven siblings, Asad secured 3rd position in the Bahawalpur Board Matriculation Examination. “Without BISP’s support, continuing my education might have been impossible,” he shared.

The ceremony also celebrated Momina Fatima, who achieved 3rd position in the Multan Board, and Mehwish, a student from Karak in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who also earned 3rd position in her board exams. Mehwish’s success, despite growing up in a region where girls’ education faces both financial and cultural hurdles, was recognized as a symbol of courage and perseverance.

Each of the students paid tribute to their parents, teachers, and the BISP program, emphasizing how financial assistance enabled them to stay in school and overcome adversity.

Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of BISP, praised the students and their families. “Today is not just a proud day for BISP—it is a proud day for Pakistan. These children, especially our brilliant girls, have proven that with the right support, nothing is beyond reach,” she said. She also highlighted the legacy of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, calling the program a fulfillment of her vision for an educated and empowered Pakistan.

“BISP was institutionalized under President Asif Ali Zardari’s leadership, and it reflects our commitment to empowering women and ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has a fair shot at success,” she added.

BISP Secretary Amer Ali Ahmad also addressed the gathering, announcing that over 10 million families are currently enrolled in the BISP network, with nearly 12 million children benefitting from the Benazir Taleemi Wazaif program. The educational stipends are supported by a significant Rs. 82 billion budget. “These students are not just our pride—they are the future of Pakistan and ambassadors of hope,” he remarked.

The celebration served as a reminder that with sustained public support and inclusive policies, children from the most disadvantaged communities can rise above their circumstances and bring pride to the nation.
