Pakistan Flood Tragedy : Death Toll Rises to 299 as Torrential Rains Wreak Havoc Nationwide

The death toll from the ongoing floods and torrential rains across Pakistan has reached 299, including 140 children, as the country continues to grapple with widespread devastation since the onset of monsoon weather on June 26, according to the latest update from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

Rising Human Cost of the Crisis

The NDMA confirmed that among the 299 fatalities, 140 were children, 102 men, and 57 women. In addition to the lives lost, the floods have left 715 people injured, including 239 children, 204 women, and 272 men, highlighting the far-reaching impact of the disaster on families across the country.

Homes Destroyed, Livelihoods Shattered

The relentless rains and flash floods have damaged a total of 1,676 houses, with 562 homes completely destroyed and 1,114 partially damaged. The natural calamity has also taken a toll on local economies, with 428 livestock lost, further affecting the livelihoods of those in already vulnerable regions.

NDMA’s Response: Rescue and Relief in Action

In response to the crisis, the NDMA has launched 223 rescue operations, evacuating 2,880 individuals from the hardest-hit areas.

Relief efforts are ongoing, with the authority distributing 13,466 essential relief items to affected communities. These supplies include:

• 1,999 tents

• 958 blankets, 569 quilts, and 613 mattresses

• 1,282 kitchen sets and 1,163 food packs

• 61 ration bags

• 350 life jackets for emergency rescue

• 1,122 hygiene kits, 2,170 tarpaulins, and 146 de-watering pumps

These measures are aimed at providing immediate support to displaced and struggling families across flood-affected zones.

Medical Relief Efforts Underway

To address growing health concerns in disaster-stricken regions, authorities have established 71 medical camps, where 577 individuals have been treated so far.

Many of the treated cases involve injuries from flood debris, waterborne illnesses, and exposure-related ailments.

A Coordinated National Effort

The NDMA emphasized that the scale of the crisis spans multiple regions and requires a coordinated response from federal and provincial authorities.

Joint relief and rescue operations remain in full swing, with continuous monitoring and support being extended to high-risk areas.

As weather conditions remain unpredictable, the NDMA is urging citizens in vulnerable regions to stay alert and follow safety advisories issued by local authorities.
